Job Description:

Summary: Physician performs and provides diagnosis, care and treatment of ambulatory care patients for full range of clinical scenarios. As an expert licensed provider, the incumbent is responsible for both direct and indirect specialized child, adolescent, and adult services, administrative duties, and continuing education. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Medical Director, who provides administrative supervision. Incumbent functions with considerable independence during the course of patient care and provide clinical duties as necessary. These services are provided in accordance with Federal and State Law, Indian Health Service Regulations and accepted ethical standards. Essential Functions : Performs and provides care to patients primarily in ambulatory clinic and inpatient settings; provides patient care and consultation in the Emergency Department as needed. Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations. Makes preliminary diagnosis, recognizing rare and difficult to identity symptoms or signs. Directs, prescribes or provides a full treatment regimen, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as necessary. Makes note of observations which are incorporated into clinical records. Provides emergency care as appropriate. Manages and oversees all medical categories for cases which do not require referral. Provides total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services. Routine duties, shall include, even if rarely required, providing medical care and public health services to individuals eligible for services provided by FMIHC in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the FMIHC service area. Reviews patient medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to treatment management plan and other observations in order to develop, modify and assess the treatment plan. Instructs and counsels patients and their families. Coordinates and integrates information obtained into ongoing health care information systems utilized by FMIHC. Ensures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to ensure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Disseminates clinical reports and correspondence concerning patients to physicians, hospitals, and other individuals and facilities. Works closely with allied health professionals to provide effective interdisciplinary health care services and treatment. Participates in a comprehensive Quality Improvement Program that meets accreditation standards of The Joint Commission. Ensures clinical care is consistent with standards of practice, guidelines, and department specific policies and procedures. Communicates effectively with patients and families in situations of medical, psychosocial, and cultural complexity. Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports and examination information to diagnose a patient's condition. Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports and examination results in the electronic health record system. Monitor patient's conditions and progress and reevaluate treatment as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients. Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary. Coordinate work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers. Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists and other medical staff. Plan, implement or administer health programs or standards in tribal departments or communities for prevention or treatment of injury or illness. Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measures. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of the English language, including spelling, rules of composition and grammar. Knowledge of the chemical compositions, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human ethnicity, cultures and their history/origins. Knowledge of current healthcare industry Privacy Act and security requirements. Knowledge of the Electronic Health Record and willingness to learn new technological systems. Other duties may be assigned. Education: A Doctor of Medicine from a school in the United States approved by a recognizing body in the year of applicant's graduation. Experience : One to two years of professional experience beyond the completion of formal internship training or progressive experience equivalent in breadth and intensity, or completion of three to four years of residency training. Must possess and maintain a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States. Certificates and Licenses : Must possess a permanent, current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States. Physical Demands: The position requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities are required such as ability to see up close, good depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Position requires use of hands to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms, feel, talk, hear, and smell. The Indian Preference Act will be enforced.
